A summer on Liverpool's golf circuit

As the sun begins to shine for the summer in Liverpool, most people will be thinking of packing their bags and going on holiday.
Families may look to go somewhere hot with the children, couples might target European romantic destinations and, of course, Brtain’s music festival scene will soon be making an impact as younger people head to Glastonbury and other events across the country.
However, a quieter way to enjoy the Great British summer, whilst still being in the sunshine is through a golfing holiday.
Golfing holidays have dated back through the generations, with many people seeing it as an ideal getaway for the summer. The chance to leave the stresses and strains of everyday life behind and endulge in their favourite pastime, somewhere a bit different from their everyday golf course.
With the increasing popularity of the sport due to larger amounts of television coverage, more and more people are turning to the sport as a way to socialise with friends and practise their skills.
Many of Britain’s larger and more established golf courses also hold national and international championships, attracting the world’s elite players.
One of those clubs to feature in world championship events, as well as double up as a golf resort of holidaymakers, is the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake.
Built in 1869, it is the second oldest seaside golf club in the country for the first seven years it doubled up as its previous function – a racetrack.
Several amateur tournaments were staged at the club over the next 100 years and in 2006 the PGA Open Championship was staged at the club, won by Tiger Woods. The Royal Liverpool Golf Club will also hold the championship in 2014.
Other golf clubs in Liverpool, such as the Royal Birkdale, which has been voted Britain’s number one golf club, will prove to have a successful summer and many tourists will look to combine a golfing holiday with a stay in Merseyside. In fact, this part of the country is often referred to as Britain’s Golf Coast.
Hotels in Liverpool can also benefit from the increased popularity of the sport and the region’s title of Britain’s Golf Coast. The Heywood House Hotel Liverpool, as well as others Liverpool hotels, actively promote the city’s golfing credentials.
The hotel in Liverpool, set in the former Heywood’s Bank building which dates back to 1799, is the only budetique hotel in the city and is popular with visitors enjoying the Golf Coast.
Heywood House is one of a number of hotels Liverpool has to offer, with each one varying in price and location. The city is preparing for a busy summer with people flocking to see the sights such as the Cavern Club, where The Beatles were discovered, or cultural locations such as the Royal Albert Hall.
Whatever you’re looking for from a hotel in Liverpool and whatever you’re looking to do, the city and former Capital of Culture has something for everyone.
